FINAL COUNTDOWN IN CYPRUS....
On Monday 20th May, we driven by bus to a very old, quaint little village called Lefkara (approx 80km away form our resort). Here we met Jackie and Jim (whom we met at the Buffalos’ BBQ last Sunday). They welcomed us into their gorgeous 500 year old stonehouse/art studio.
Lefkara is poised high on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains and is cocooned in a rural setting peppered with olive groves and vineyards. It is a maze of cobbled streets dotted with shops filled with intricate lace, embroidery and crafts. Craftsmen proudly beckon you into their workshops with brilliant silverware glistening round every nook and cranny.
We were take to an olive farm where we sampled the local produce. We then watched a local silversmith crafting a traditional silver wedding gift followed by a lady who demonstrated the art of embroidery and fine lace making.
It was such a pleasure to come across another side of Cypriot life - from our seaside resort filled with exciting water parks and tourist attractions to a more authenitc cultural setting experience traditional Cypriot culture.
Yesterday, we went scuba diving again, and students who were a little reluctant to try it our on Day 1, all had a go today! We arrived in Cyprus two weeks agao with 2 students and one staff member unable to swim....now everyone is officially a swimmer!
Most nights the kids go to the Hotel mini disco where there sing and dance their hearts away from 8.30pm-9pm. Over the last two weeks, they have learned action songs in Greek, Russian, Spanish and English. They have participated with such enthusiasm each evening, they were invited to lead the singing an dancing on stage last night! Absolutely brilliant....that's all I can say!
(signing off now to enjoy our last day here in Cyprus - Mrs Fryers & Mr Macklin)
