10 pupils and 3 staff from year 10 at Rosstulla School had a fantastic day out visiting the animals at Belfast Zoo, with funding from the Belfast Harbour Commission in conjunction with Greenisland FC. All pupils on the trip had enjoyed taking part in Greenisland Mental Health Programme earlier this year.
Before the trip pupils had been doing data handling as part of their numeracy and were able to do a project on the zoo animals, counting their chosen animals on the trip, getting pictures with them and then producing a tally and bar chart with the results. This trip therefore enabled pupils to get a great first-hand practical numeracy lesson.
On the sunny day the pupils not only enjoyed seeing the wild animals that they’d never seen before but loved spending time with their peers, socialising, being in the outdoors in the fresh air and of course playing in the park!
