Rosstulla School, Newtownabbey

Headteachers Welcome

Rosstulla school is a special school which caters for students aged 4 to 17 with moderate learning difficulties and other complex needs.   It is a co-educational and inter- denominational school and we follow the Northern Ireland Curriculum, making adaptions to suit the individual needs of the students.

All students are referred to the school by the Education Authority, North Eastern region and have a Statement of Special Educational Need.  The statement is reviewed annually to ensure that the needs of the student are being appropriately met and that Rosstulla remains the correct school placement.  Students have an Education Plan which is reviewed each term and parents receive an annual school report.

The school accommodation has been extended and renovated.  Classrooms are well equipped and the school is well maintained. Rosstulla has a Primary Department (Robb Primary) and a Secondary Department (Lowry Secondary). We provide small class settings with experienced Teaching and LSA staff and have the support of the EA behaviour support service in the form of individual behaviour support for some of our most challenging pupils.

All students in years 11- 13 access part of their education through the Newtownabbey Learning Community. They attend either a local post primary school or a college of Further Education as part of their school week. A range of external examinations are offered in years 12 and 13.

We work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the students. Health Trust Speech and Language therapists are facilitated within the school to work with identified students.

Should you wish to have a visit to the school please contact the principal.
